    Solar Reels

    1. 12 months ago
      Held up to the winters
Great reel...no issues, assembly was fairly easy but needed to drill my own holes, no big deal. Much better than other reels friends or I have had in the past. Left outside during winters, still in perfectly good working condition after 4 years.

      Average roller for the price
I have only used the roller for a few days but here is my experience so far. 1. The assembly process was tougher than it needed to be. The directions are horrible. You do need to drill to set the length but it is not clear. This could be assemblied so much quicker if the dirrections were more than a page and a half. 2. I have a 40 foot long cover and this does roll that cover up but I was a little surprised that it took some muscle. With improved bearings it would be a great product. I am ... read more sure that if you are not in better than average shape you can do it. My 66 year old father and 27 year old sister stuggeled to do on their own. 3. Very stable 4. Overall it is good product but I am not sure for the money it is worth it. A few small changes and it would be something I highly recommend, not sure I do right now.

      Works well
Compared to the reels on the groynd, this reel works so easily. You can break the wheels and actually pull it on with one person. Wheeling in is a dream. Only prob is what I knew going in. Directions are a bit confusing and you need a strong drill. Aluminum is strong and hard. But I am a 120 lb woman.

      2nd set
This is the 2nd set I have purchased. The attachment clips are different than the 1st set. The problem with the 1st set was that one of the clips broke. I also noted that the straps would not always wind on the reel smoothly to keep the cover flat. However, using the straps with the reel makes it easy to store the cover when not needed.

      Good for all solar covers
The "Above Ground" kit for my AG pool was useless. The ropes rotted in one year and the plastic disintegrated. The "In Ground" kit works much better. Forget about attaching the straps directly to the cover. Here is what I do: get a 1/2 inch vinyl water pipe the approximate width of the cover. Glue end caps on so it will float. Pass the straps top to underneath the cover and around the pipe and back up through the buckles. The pipe floats just under the cover and when it is pulled up the cover ... read more stays nice and flat and does not bunch so much. When the cover is unrolled the ends tend to curl under the surface. I attach another 18 inch length of capped pipe to each end of the cover. The pipes pull the ends down and help float the ends out the right way.

      Perfect replacement
Exact replacement that we got from the dealer when we bought our pool. We use this on our Above Ground pool even though it says it's for In Ground pools. Much better to attach velcro to the pool reel than screw into the metal. Our first velcro set lasted 5 years before the velcro adhesive started wearing off, so we hope that is the case with this set. Great value!

      solar blanket reel
once i figured out how to assemble then it went together rather easily (thanks to youtube videos)... the instructions that come with it are terrible... and attaching the straps took time... it's a nice reel once it's together

      Not bad...But.
All in all a nice solar reel. Easy to assemble and operate. sturdy enough even at maximun extension. The only drawback is that the straps that attach the cover to the reel rotted away after just one season.

      Works great.
This solar cover reels fits our pool perfectly. Takes the hassle out of folding a 10ft x 50ft cover ever time we use our pool. Very simple to install.

      Life saver!!
I've been using a hand crank reel for years and when it was time for a new one I opted for this one and boy I have not been disappointed! It's so easy to use! I don't know how I did it without this!! I'm in love!!!

Just purchased this battery operated reel. I was going to purchase the Pool Boy 2 with an electrical plug but I had no outlets nearby and an extension cord would be unsightly. I'm so glad I bought this battery powered reel. It was easy to install and set up, it took me and my son 2 hours to assemble. The reel is solid and sturdy, it doesn't wobble with my 20' X 45' heavy 16mil solar cover. That little battery powers up the cover in both directions in under a minute. The only drawback is the ... read more that there is only one remote and it must be re-activated with each use by pressing both buttons for a few seconds as a safety I guess. If the battery holds charge for two weeks before recharging , I'll be satisfied as it only takes 6 hours to fully charge. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase as it was also delivered within 3 days from purchase. Thank you IntheSwim.com

      Worth Every Penny
When my 16 x 34 fiberglass pool was installed last year, the $10,000 to $12,000 it would cost to have an automatic pool cover installed was not an option. Needless to say, I soon tired of pulling my solar cover on and off and then laying it to the side. This took up all of my usable space on one length of the pool. Once I started looking for solar cover reels, I was pleased to find that the Pool Boy III was within my budget. I have been using my Pool Boy III for a little over a month, and it has ... read more been worth ever penny. It fits directly underneath my diving board and looks very neat and tidy. In addition, I don't have to worry about pulling and tugging with the fear of ripping my cover. You do need to buy the Solar Reel Attachment Kit for In Ground Pools though. Otherwise, you will not be able to secure the cover to the reel. The only con is that I am starting to see a few rusty areas here and there. If it lasts for many years to come, I will have no complaints.

      Great idea but flimsy brackets
The saddle does indeed make removal and installation of the solar cover a simple and speedy 1 person operation. However the brackets that attach the saddles, or hooks, to the top of the pool edge are made of plastic and break extremely easily. I just re-attached to the pool edge using electrical ties, and it works great, and a bonus is that when the cover is on, you can fold the hooks to the side of the pool out of the way. Someone creative could fabricate brackets out of metal. The product is a ... read more bit over priced for what you get, but I would spend the money again for the ease and time saved in 1 person cover removal and install.

      Great Solution
We've got a 24' round pool and this works great. We used to roll up the cover and lay it in the grass or drap it over our fence. The fence would tear it and we got all kinds of dirt and grass back in the pool. This attached quite easily and makes covering and uncovering much better. I can uncover it from outside the pool and pull it back on from inside the pool by myself. My son can pull it back on with a little help. No more grass all over the cover!

Keeps everything neat and off the ground
Product works as listed. The only thing I didn't like is I had to drill 10 holes into the rail to attach, but the screws are barely visible. It's easy to take the cover off with one person, but two is much easier to get it on instead of one. I have a thicker cover though with bubble type material underneath, so it's hard to pull up without getting stuck on the lip of the pool. So far it seems to hold the weight of the cover, hopefully it lasts for many seasons.

      Totally Awesome!!!
Now that I have gotten everything set up and used this puppy for awhile, I highly recommend this product. It has made pool life sooo much easier. Yes, it is high on the price but well worth it in the long run.

      Complicated assembly/ electrical
I purchased the pool boy 1 so I would not have to worry about batteries dying and also because of the adjustable height. I definitely needed the highest setting. My pool is a lazy L shape and the cover has to be folded to fit the wheel. However I thought the pool boy would just plug into an outlet. That is not the case. There is a power supply box that has to be mounted on the side of the house and then that gets plugged into an outlet. The assembly of the unit itself requires drilling through ... read more the metal reel in addition to the grounding and running the power supply. It is definitely not for the average homeowner to assemble themselves unless you are an electrician and are more than mechanically inclined.... once it is assembled, it works fine. It does not come with the reel attachment kit as advertised. I purchased the universal attachment kit from in the swim and it literally just had adhesive strips to "glue" the straps on the wheel. Didnt even stay on for one reeling (cover is heavy and wet...terrible design). I went to the hardware store and purchased washers and screws and drilled the straps on with those. Has not come off since

      Great Product
I looked around the internet looking for reviews because of the cost. I was unable to find anything so I will give you my take on the product. It is absolutely awesome!!! It exceeded my expectations in terms of how well it extracts and retracts the pool cover. Pretty straight forward in terms of assembly. Two downsides- wish it came with caster wheels(went to home depot and put them on product-) and wish i could unplug unit from the electrical box instead of where reel is. If any of you are sick ... read more of taking off cover and putting it back on, I highly recommend this product. I was actually looking at buying an automatic pool cover but this does the same job at a fraction of the cost. I will use pool more often this summer because of the ease of use with this product.

      Easy to assemble and use
I have tried several options in solar blankets, the crank type and then the solar rings, BUT this is by far the easiest for 1 person to use of all of them. I am very pleased with this item

      Great Solar Reel
I installed it today and it is the greatest product I have ever purchased. Operation is smooth and quiet.

      Worked great
We installed the remote solar reel early this summer and it worked well, once we changed the fuse, for 7 weeks. It has stopped working although the batteries and fuses seem to be fine. We are disappointed because it is such a handy thing!

      Rocky's 3A reel
I purchased a cheap plastic reel 3 years ago and my neighbor purchased a Rocky's - I was penny wise and dollar foolish. I recently purchased a Rocky's from In The Swim and I'm very happy with it. It even holds up well outside in our harsh Wisconsin winters.

Hopefully the last reel we need to buy
we have a 24x48 pool, this reel is perfect. 1 person can manage, but 2 people makes covering and uncovering a breeze. We have had this reel for 2 years now, it has shown no wear. We do put it away in the harsh Pa. winters. Rolls very smoothly, we uncover pool toward steps, then push back out of the way.

      Near perfect
Fantastic reel! Sturdy and compact. Love the anchors to hold down in place. Only minor improvement would be to make the anchors slightly longer and maybe more corse thread or other way to have them engage more easily with less chance of cross threading. Otherwise great reel and would recommend to anyone.
