    Solar Heaters

      Seems to be good quality!
Seller was great on delivery. The cover is thick and heavy.... may need a different reel....trying to beef the one we have up. The color is not clear at all... but I didn’t except it to be by other reviews. I think it will be a good cover for us. I wish a cover was provided with this for when it’s on the reel....would extend the life of the solar cover...but, getting to be a lot of covers! Winter, solar, cover for solar cover...all in all... I like it! Just on pool a week tho... make up your own mind!

      Works Even Better Than Expected
Like to swim only in warm water 82-84 F, thus a pool cover to keep heat loss to a minimum is a MUST. After reading up on Troublefreepools.com I decided on a near clear color and top of line 16 mils as bubble-type solar covers go. While my Intex UltraFrame pool is only 12x24 I ordered the 18x36 cover and cut to size. Will use rest to wrap around the pool sides (under a deck) for added insulation. Pool is heated by a geothermal heatpump, now only running about 2 hrs a day to maintain above ... read more temperatures even after cool nights. Pool is in partly shaded location. Use a PoolBoy motorized reel with remote control, well worth it compared to manually turned reels. Easy one-person operation.

Heavy solar blanket holds the warmth over night
We are happy w/ our ultra 16 mil solar cover. We had a streak of very warm humid weather which helped warm the pool water to 86+* & the blanket maintained the warmth . Our pool hasn't been above 84* in years.

      Not too hot....
So far, I've only noticed minimal heating. However, the water evaporation is greater than when using me solar blanket. But then, maybe my expectations were too great.

      It worked!
I bought this as we have had a cold summer. My 3 year old granddaughters birthday party was to be a pool party here. I put it in and with clouds and mid 80 temps it raised the temp of water 5 degrees in 4 days. All the kids had a blast. So I am sold on this product! Well worth the money!

We are so DELIGHTED with this product!!!
We added 6oz. to our large pool, during cycling. It conserved water evaporation SO much better than we could have predicted. It got up to 104* for 3 days, then dropped into the high 90's this past week. The pool is in direct sunlight and I would have needed to top it off, at least twice by now. The temperature (no heater) has rapidly reached & maintained a 5-7* increase in warmth. We will be able to use the pool much more often & that makes us happy!! It was a bummer when the water temperature ... read more was too cold & hot outside!! With Cover/free, so far, Sunday to Thursday before a small top off is needed. There is no residue on your skin. No odor. It is important to us that the product is "friendly". A huge plus, is there's NO ugly pool cover & crank to deal with. Leaving a lovely play area, ready for play!!! We LOVE it & will buy it again!

      Great product/Great Service!
Just received 3 of these and they were very easy to install. My pool had previously been set up with a tube heater from intheswim so installation was super easy. Less than an hour and they were up and running. We have had very rainy, cloudy days since then but they do seem to be heating as advertised.

      Works well
Works well my pool is shaded but this is the perfect solution to the shade. A little difficult to set up.

      Works great!!
Purchased two to heat my 24ft round above ground pool. Works great, when it’s sunny. Has already extended my swimming season by a month. Normally I would not have even opened the pool. For those reviews that complain of leaks I wonder if it was assembled correctly? Followed directions and correct setting for divertor valve and no leaks anywhere

A Solar balnket to be proud of!
After having our in ground pool over 32 years we have gone through several solar blankets, but this one we receive 2 weeks ago appears to be the best one ever. It is well sized and much thicker than our previous ones. We have been blessed with more rain and some cooler days and nights , but we have been able to swim almost every day in comfort. It keeps our pool temperature up and seems to do a great job. We will have to wait to determine the durability of the blanket.

      Does not lie flat.
Solar blanket does not lie flat. Very wrinkly even after on pool after a few weeks. 12 ml is as expected. However disappointed in the looks of this. Did not have this problem with my other ones.

      Wonderful to prevent evaporation
I am a great proponent of solar covers both as a heat retainer but more importantly, to conserve water. I haven't added water to my pool in years by keeping it covered when not in use. That said. I find the covers from a variety of vendors to last about 2 Summers. I do keep my chlorine level a bit high which doesn't help. Don't depend on manufacturer's warranties which specify much longer periods for defects. My experience is they last a couple of years at most when used all Summer.

      Really heats up pool!
I love how this heats up our pool. We've had a cool summer, but this cover makes the pool have an inviting temperature.

      Great service, good product
I can't say enough good things about customer service from In the Swim. I ordered this at 10pm on Friday and received it Tuesday. Good price also. The solar blanket is well-made but with all these items, you need to be careful in handling since you can poke a hole in it or rip it. With some care, this should last several years, as have other blankets.

      Awesome Cover
We have purchased more expensive solar covers in the past from our local pool supplier. They last maybe two seasons before they are junk. They warm the pool up, but not much. Three days on our pool this cover brought the water temps from 55 degrees to 83 degrees and maintains the temps in the 80's. This cover is also way more heavier than that from our local supplier at almost half the price.

3 Years is about Max on this Cover
As far as it's usefulness in warming the pool it did a great job along with our solar heater. Keeps the pool warm from the cool nights. I have owned this cover for 3 seasons and noticed for about the last month or so of using it, when I would take it off to swim there were little blue circles floating around in my pool. Which tells me the cover is degrading and will not be very useful as little plastic circles are not what you want to swim with. I feel they should change the warranty on this to ... read more 3yrs because for a 7 yr warranty it doesn't cover it after the first 2.

      GREAT
Heavy duty solar cover. This is my 2nd one in 6 years. Very happy with it.

Received promptly after ordering. Seems to be sturdy. So far it has kept our pool warmer on the cool nights. We haven't had it to long so we're not sure if it holds up.

We enjoy our pool longer with our solar panels.
Once panels are connected and sun arrived our pool was enjoyed dinner with warmer temperatures.

      Solar heater
Very hard to roll up to store for the winter, they don’t heat as well as the old ones did.

Good solar heater - our pool is 82 by May 1
We were skeptical that solar would work here in PA, but it sure does, we get the water warm quickly and have a month extra to enjoy the pool. By late June we don't need the heater, until after Labor Day. Have had this heater for 3-years now, and was asked to review. Left it on too long last season and had it 90 degs on memorial day (way too hot), so yeah it works. Be sure to install more than you need tho, if you wanta longer swim season.

      Simple and efficient
I wanted something that would help raise my in ground pool water temp about 10 degrees and don't have anywhere to install a solar panel so thought I would try this device out. Bought 2 of these units and attached 100ft of black hose to each. Simple to install took less than half hour. After about a week water temp is up 6 degrees only because it has been cloudy and raining. I have no doubt will allow us to enjoy pool about a month earlier than our usual season.

      Like it -
I bought this a few weeks ago and it does work well to warm the water. Water coming out was 80 degrees and going back in was over 90. We were pleased! Now that fall is here the sun is just not quite warm enough to do much but I think it will work great in the spring and maybe help us get in sooner and not have to use the solar cover so much in the summer. --- We have 4 50' black hoses hooked to it. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars and just 4 instead is b/c it does come apart ... read more some but once you have it on - just let it be and it will work. Don't try to over adjust or it comes apart.

      Better than expected
I have had this working all summer and it does an excellent job. It kept our pool warm (typically cools 1-2 deg/night w/ cover only - cold here at night) and comfortable. We attached 125' of black rubber hose, coiled it, and it worked wonderfully. (Advice for the person who couldn't get it to attach: go to a home store and spend about $1.38 for a reducer or adapter. Ask for help and someone can fix this for you.)

In The Swim Knowledge Pool: Solar Pool Heaters

    In The Swim's Dr. Pool

Harness the Power of the Sun

In The Swim has solar pool heaters for inground pools and solar pool heaters for above ground pools. Capture the sun´s energy and put it to work heating your swimming pool! Solar pool heaters work well in all parts of the U.S., placed in any backyard area with daily unobstructed sun. Modular above ground pool solar heaters connect quickly to the pool return hose, and inground solar heaters are mounted to a nearby roof, rack or fence.

    Pool Solar Heater Benefits

    • •  Most affordable pool heater you can buy, and free to operate
    • •  Environmentally friendly - no emissions, and no fuel used
    • •  Simple DIY installation by any handy homeowner

The best feature of solar pool heaters is the free pool heat, after a low initial cost. In addition, solar pool heaters start great backyard conversations!

How Solar Heaters Work: Inground or above ground solar pool heaters circulate pool water through black tubes that absorb the sun’s heat. A solar panel bypass allows you to control the flow rate through the solar panels and turn the system off during rainy days or after dark. Facing the solar panels in a southern direction, tipped towards the sun will increase solar heating; 6 hours of daily, unobstructed sun is best for optimum heating.

Will Solar Pool Heaters Work on My Pool? Solar pool heaters will work well across the entire country, as long as you have a sunny spot near your pool pump that gets 4-6 hours of direct sun. Heat output depends on several factors, including the size of the solar system in relation to the pool, whether or not the pool is covered, and how many hours of daily sun the pool and solar panels receive. Good-sized solar heater systems can add between 15-20° F to your pool water, in all regions of the country, and smaller solar systems can easily add 5-10° F.

How Many Solar Panels are Needed? The more solar panel surface area you have (Sq. Ft.), the more solar energy you can transfer to the pool water. Inground solar heaters are typically sized to 40-50% of the pool surface area, but shallower above ground solar heaters are best sized to match 20-30% of the pool surface area. Calculate the pool surface area in square feet, and then use the multiplier to buy enough solar panels to match the result. The more solar panels you add, the greater the heat gain.

    Solar Pool Heater Installation

Above ground solar pool heaters are built for simple installation. Simply cut the return hose and connect the hose ends to the bypass kit, to allow you to reduce the flow rate into the solar panels (slower is best for heat absorption). Using a 3-way diverter valve, or two 2-way valves will allow you to bypass the solar panels completely, during rainy days or after dark, or if the pool becomes too warm.

Inground pool solar heaters may require advance planning for placement of the 10' or 20' long solar panels, and some PVC plumbing to route the water into and out of the solar panels. Our 10' and 20' panels can be placed directly on the ground, but for best results, mount onto a roof or rack, facing south. The Bypass Valve Kit is used for control of flow into the solar panels, and to bypass the system completely during inclement weather, and at night.
