    Pool Algaecides

    1. 1 decade ago
      Finally--a product that worked!
For some reason this summer, we got a huge outbreak of algae and nothing we had used in the past would break it up. We dosed the pool with this black algaecide and within one dose we had a cleared problem.

This is the Holy Grail of Algaecides
I had terrible problems with black algae spots that could not be killed by any other products. They resisted brushing, and even pressure washing in my drained pool. Upon re-filling my pool, the black algae came back to life. I found this product, added it to my pool according to directions, and it quickly killed the black algae once and for all. I now use this product to prevent any algae growth in my pool.

      most copper content
still have black algae problems and have done everything recommended. Product seemed to slow things a bit but didn't kill it off.I steel brushed it then scrubbed with a chlorine tab then shocked and then added 15 oz of this product at night, only to have the algae resurface 4 days later.

Saved Me Mega Money and Time
Two years ago....after being gone for three weeks (and having some attention by my house sitter) my pool got totally out of control. Mega algae bloom. After much effort.......I was told that by pool maintenance pros that I would have to replace the water and possibly the sand in the filter. Replacing the water did not solve the problem.....yellow algae started to return and I was facing about $1000 to change out the sand in my filter. Fortunately No Mor Problems was recommended. I have not had a ... read more problem since. Very good product....use it weekly......outstanding!!

      AMAZING!!!!
This product is amazing! We lived with a murky pool all last summer, and the pool store was telling us everything was fine. This year our pool was green when we opened it and after spending at least $400 on products from our local stores (yes, we used 2 different stores) we still had a murky pool that wouldn't stay balanced, and "silt" was constantly appearring. We were told we must need to replace our sand or our filter. We then ordered No Mor Problems and watched our pool fix itself before our ... read more eyes! Within 3 days we had a beautiful pool! Two months later, our water clarity is still brilliant! All we do is treat with this product weekly and add chlorine tabs. No more copper algeacide, super blue, shock! Give it a try!!! It's well worth it!!!

      It Really Works
I have had a real problem with Green Algae. My pool is exposed to direct sunlight all day. After several treatments of Shock and Algaecide. This product along with periodic shock treatment has kept it under control and looking great. All my pool chemicals and equipment are from In-The-Swim. They have the best prices and you can depend on fast delivery.

      Finishing touch
I've been battling the cleanup of algae for a year. Our (fired) pool service did nothing for it except to add more and more liquid chlorine. We've used several products that have been working, but we just couldn't get rid of all of it. We decided to give this product a shot. I put it in last night, then the powder chlorine, 12 hours later, more powder chlorine. Tonight I only had 3 small spots of algae left. I have 1 more time with the powder chlorine and I think we'll have it licked. I wish I'd ... read more started with this product a year ago.

      BEST PRODUCT EVER
Our winter cover fell into the pool this year making our pool a complete green, swampy mess. We cleaned leaves, tadpoles, etc out of the pool and shocked it multiple times with very little results. Green pond, looking water. Green To Clean has shown wonderful results after about 8 hours. We are at the within about 17 hours the pool is only a little cloudy. I will purchase this product to open our pool every year!

      Seems to work
We were having trouble cleaning up our pool after a too-late spring opening. We tried a Green to Clean treatment, and the pool cleared up much more quickly. How much of this is due to the product, and how much to the associated shock treatment is hard to say, but if I ever find myself in the same predicament, I'll use the product again.

      Algae Problem??? NO PROBLEM!!!
Been having horrible algae problems for the last two seasons. Tried everything - algaecide, super shock... NOTHING worked. Saw this product, and thought "what the heck...it's worth a shot." OMG ~ so glad I did. Liner is squeaky clean...haven't had that for three seasons! Highly recommend this product. It's been a sanity saver, and we're FINALLY enjoying the pool again.

      The BEST algaecide ever!
I started using this product about 5 years ago to get rid of a huge algae bloom. Nothing had worked up until then. The SeaKlear was nothing short of amazing. I use 1/2 a bottle every 3 months along with In the Swim super shock and I have the clearest water all the time.

      Winterizing Wonders
Third year now that I have used the In The Swim winterizing package for my in-ground pool. Works like a charm and saves the cost of hiring someone to do it for me. This spring, the water needed less attention than prior seasons due to addition of floating clorinator included in the package. Thanks for making opening easier but my former pool guy misses the business. Maybe he'll pay you not to sell your products ??

      Finally!
With arthritis, we keep our pool warmer than the average pool. This results in a struggle with algae. Our pool has been either green or cloudy most of the summer- yuk...and we have spent hundreds of dollars on chemicals. This would have been tolerable if it had resulted in clear water. I even replaced fairly new filters, thinking this may be the answer. I saw this product and thought the mechanism of action seemed logical. Well, we now have the clearest water we've had in 7 years! I anticipate a ... read more great decrease in the cost of operating our pool....and it is beautiful now.

      best product, best deal
It is now a known fact that algae cannot survive without phosphates, and Phos-Free easily brings your pool's phosphate level to zero. Since using this, I have never had even a hint of algae (and it was a significant fight before then). Plus, the 3 liter bottle from In The Swim costs about the same as what my local store charges for a 2 liter bottle. I usually get 2 bottles (which meets the free shipping level) and I'm good for the season. Not only that but a free test kit is included so you know ... read more it's working. All around, my favorite item from In The Swim.

      Cheap chemicals
Phosfree worked great, we've had a pool for over 33 years , Never had to worry about using phosfree until the last few years.chemical companies are making the chemicals cheaper with phosphates thus costing us consumers money. Also watch out for cyanuric acid if this is to high you will have to drain your pool to get rid of it.its on tablets and shock.

Wish my husband had listened to me sooner!
We fought mustard algae from the day we opened the pool until we put a bottle of algaecide 50 in August. I had tried to get my husband to order it sooner but he wanted to support the small town pool store in our community in TN. Finally out of frustration I ordered it and he had to hear the I told you so. For peace of mind and in the household order yours today. It was delivered quickly, it was cheaper then what we had been buying, and it worked. No downside.

      Beat pool season ever
This is the best pool season in regards to maintenance in years. I was trying to decide on an algaecide this year and selected this based on the ingredients and something i had read on another pool care site.... we've had our pool for 16 years and started with chlorine, switched to baquacil for several years, back to chlorine...... out of the 16 years we probably had 2 trouble free years.... until this year.......i bought 24 pk of shock and this algaecide (i usually go through tons of shock and ... read more a few bottles of algaecide trying to keep the algae killed and "trying" to have clear water).... We have a 24' above ground and don't cover it over the winter... we continue to scoop fallen leaves out until the end of fall. In April we had a few nice days so i scooped out most of the remainder of the leaves and mixed 2 bags of shock in a bucket of water and dumped in the pool to get a jump start (before filter). Upon actually opening the pool the middle of May (connecting the filter) i added another bag of shock and filled our floating chlorine dispenser with four 3" chlorine tablets and added probably 6 ounces of the algaecide. I have not used any shock since.. I have used this algaecide faithfully every sunday and have not seen one bit of algae all year. Our pool water is so clean, clear and sparkling.... we usually fight cloudiness, algae etc. I replace the tablets when gone add the algaecide once a week and this has been the extent of my maintenance this year. I actually love our pool again. I will not open the pool again without this algaecide... I even bought two of the sparkle cubes this year as i used one last year and it seemed to help but still had a few algae blooms... i haven't even opened a sparkle cube yet...... i am very happy with this product.

      Algaecide 50 - Great Stuff
I have been using "In The Swim" chemicals (Including Algaecide 50) to open and close my pool for (4) years now. Never a problem. I have friends that have to empty better than half the water each spring just to clean and get their pool ready. I have never had to drain any water. "Closing" and more importantly "opening" has always been flawless. I will continue using Algaecide 50 as well as all the other "In The Swim" chemicals. GREAT STUFF!

      Finally!!!
I used this in combination with the Algaecide 60 plus & had wonderful results! We have been combatting algae all summer & the pool stores were out of solutions! I put this & the Algaecide 60 in and within one day had a beautiful sparkly pool. It did cause a massive need for chlorine all of a sudden. We usually check our combined chlorine levels as well as free chlorine & our tests indicated that we needed chlorine levels of around 50 to burn everything out! After a ton of shock, we finally ... read more started seeing some free chlorine coming back! Also, our ph dropped at some point, so be prepared with some bicarb :-) However, all of our levels are back to normal & our pool is beautiful!

      Amazing Product
I used 4 lbs of Yellow Out and 4 lbs of shock and it changed my pool water from green to clear blue. This is the best product I have ever used for getting rid of algae. Don't bother with going to a pool store and buying expensive chemicals. Just follow the instructions on Yellow Out and it will give you something to shout about. My pool look better than it has in years. I am thankful i found this product and will keep some on hand.

      Really works on yellow algae!
I have a 22,000 gallon pool, and my pool man told me to use 8 pounds of Yellow Out. I had been fighting my green pool for almost three weeks, adding hundreds of dollars of chemicals and running the pool continuously. Then, I added the Yellow Out by scoops, following each scoop with a scoop of chlorine. The next morning my pool was blue. I still needed to add clarifier to eliminate a little cloudiness, but what a relief!

In The Swim Knowledge Pool: Pool Algaecides

    In The Swim's Dr. Pool

    Why Use Pool Algaecides?

While lack of proper circulation and out-of-balance water chemistry can lead to the growth of algae in pools, even carefully maintained swimming pools can sometimes experience algae growth. It is important to use an effective treatment as soon as an algae bloom appears in your pool and it's also a good idea to take measures to prevent algae from growing in your pool in the first place.

For killing out of control algae blooms, look to Green to Clean and Yellow Out, natural and non-toxic chlorine enhancers that boost the killing power of chlorine pool shock. Small localized areas of algae can be eradicated with In The Swim Pool Algaecide, Algaecide 50 and Algaecide 60 Plus, and a stiff pool brush. For repeated algae blooms, step up protection with our Super Algaecide, No Mor Problems or Algae Clear for stubborn situations.

    Preventing Pool Algae

    •  1. Well balanced water, with proper pH, Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness and Stabilizer levels.
    •  2. Constant and consistent chlorine level of 1-3 ppm, along with regular superchlorination to 10+ ppm.
    •  3. An effective filter; run the pump each day for 12 hours daily, more or less, depending on effectiveness.
    •  4. A clean pool; brush, skim and vacuum to remove organic debris which contributes to algae problems.
    •  5. Monitor levels of phospates in the pool. Use a phosphate remover when levels exceed 300 ppb.

If you do all of that, and still have algae - begin an algaecide treatment with weekly doses of our Pool AlgaecideAlgaecide 50 or Algaecide 60 Plus, to assist your chlorine to combat pool algae. Algaecides accomplish this by eroding the outer protective layers of the organism, allowing chlorine to penetrate into the cells.

    Killing Pool Algae

    •  1. Clean pool of debris with skimming, vacuuming and brushing pool.
    •  2. Adjust Alkalinity to 80-120 ppm, Calcium Hardness to 180+ ppm, pH to 7.2-7.3, and stabilizer to 20-50 ppm.
    •  3. Add Pool Shock per label instructions.
      • - For light green algae with good visibility, add 1-2 lbs of shock per 10,000 gallons.
      • - For medium green pools with visible shallow end floor, add 2-3 lbs shock per 10,000 gallons.
      • - For dark green pools with very poor visibility, use Swamp Treat or Green to Clean with a triple-dose shock.
    •  4. Brush pool and run filter overnight (remove solar blanket covers while chlorine levels are high).
    •  5. In 12 hrs, check pH and chlorine levels. If chlorine has dropped to near zero, repeat treatment.
    •  6. Continue to run filter 24/7, cleaning filter only when filter pressure rises or flow rates decrease.
    •  7. Add a Clarifier after 2-3 days, to assist your filter in removing suspended particles.
    •  8. Add an Algaecide after 4-5 days, adding an initial dosage, followed by regular maintenance doses, per label.
    •  9. Add a Filter Cleaner after 5-7 days, to remove algae particles trapped inside of sand or cartridge pool filters

In The Swim's swimming pool algaecides are highly effective products which will help you keep your pool water crystal clear and algae-free. Our powerful pool algaecide will reduce the need for pool shock treatments and are safe for all pool surfaces.
